Update? Why yes, I'll update

Wolf asks for an update, well, I'm in the middle of our tenth anniversary trip to Scotland. I found a lovely little place in the Highlands with wireless internet access, so I can post all the pictures that I want, so look for updates.

Update

Yes, I know it’s been over two months since I last updated. I’m a slacker, what can I say.
The dogs are doing wonderfully. It took them no time at all to learn the boundaries of the yard and they can run freely with the wireless fence. Stick chasing is a favorite pastime along with doggie wrestling.
Me? Well, we now have a DVR which is one of the most wonderful/evil things in the world. I need to cut back on the shows we record because it seems I hardly have to the time to catch up on everything. It’s quite handy for Tuesday nights because at the present time I record Commander in Chief and House while watching The Amazing Race. The Amazing Race is really boring me this season though. The only reason I still watch is in a vain hope that the Weaver family gets Philiminated soon.
I am also hopelessly addicted to The Sims 2. Right now I am trying to create the Zangre in my Cardegoss neighborhood. I think I will start uploading some of my creations to the Sims 2 exchange. In any case the game is a lot of fun.

I want DVR. Or money for seasons of TV on DVD, whichever works.

You aren't a slacker. Just had different priorities for a while {G}

The only things we have been watching with any regularity are Lost and Threshold and I watch CSI:LV. Did you ever get hooked on Battlestar Galactica?

Isn't it fun to be a pet chew toy? The cats think we are their personal pillows since the air got nippy {G}

DVR is the best thing since sliced bread. I don't know how other people survive without it. What do they do when someone calls in the middle of their favorite TV show? They can't pause it!

Pet owners refusing to leave homes

This is absolutely killing me. FEMA will have to pay for their gross mismanagement of the operation.

Playtime

Play Time
Posted by Picasa
Sebastian arrived on Saturday much to everyone's delight, especially Lilo's. He's a very sweet dog. Very gentle and quiet...unless he's playing with Lilo, then it's a different dog altogether.

Good News and Bad News

The bad news is that our adoption councilors at the shelter called and it appears that Sebastian has gone into a depression since Lilo left. The good news is they're bringing him over this Saturday! A full week early! I can't wait, he seems like such a sweet dog and Lilo will love to have a playmate. Now we have to go spend another fortune at Petsmart.

YEA!! Petsmart needs the money ya know. You are doing a service {G}.

So, are they saying, "Can we go yet, huh-huh-huh, can we leave yet? Are we there yet???"

Very cute!

The dogs are so precious. I wish I was living in a place with a yard so I could have dogs!

After two days...

...lilo is doing wonderfully. She only barks when someone comes to the door. She plays and romps and sleeps. She's not eating too much right now, but our adoption councilor said that was normal. She also hasn't made any messes in the house yet, but we've been diligent about watching her. I can't wait to get Sebastian in a couple of weeks.

I was wondering how things were going. What does Sebastian look like?

Noon today

Lilo
Posted by Picasa

At noon today Lilo gets to come home. We went and saw her on Wednesday evening. They were testing her with cats to see if she showed any agressive traits. She didn't show any, but they'll still have to test Sabastian with the cats as well. The one thing we did find out on Wednesday is Lilo is very afraid of Thunderstorms. They're predicting some this afternoon, so it should be interesting.

New Dog

Yesterday we went down to this lovely no-kill animal shelter to pick out a dog. We've been discussing this for awhile now and had decided to rescue an older dog and then get a kitten. I figured this would be the best if one wanted to have a dog and a cat.
The process at the shelter is you are guided through all of the kennels (which are quite large) and you try to pick out someone to meet one on one. It took us two times through because my mom forgot to look at their names. All of the meeting rooms were being used so we were put in the kitchen when they brought the first dog in. I think he was a greyhound-chihuahua. Slightly larger than a normal chihuahua with a brindle coat. This poor dog was so shy he huddled by the door. The next dog was a shelti-German shepherd mix that's just under a year old. She was brought in, was a little more out-going than the previous dog but not much. Our guide checked and one of the regular meeting rooms was open so we marched down there. I sat on the sofa they had in the room and the little shelti-shepherd dog that had acted so shy jumped up beside me and kissed me on the cheek. That's basically all she wrote. We're calling today (24 hour waiting period) to adopt Lilo (actually I think we're switching it since she doesn't seem to respond to the name). Then 2 weeks after that we want to adopt her kennel mate Sebastian who is a slightly more reserved terrier mix that she seems to adore.
I don't know if cats are completely out of the picture yet, we'll have to wait and see.

Hurray! Please post pictures when the new doggie will allow it (and has their new name.)

I called. She's ours, but they won't deliver her until Friday! in the mean time we will probably spend a small fortune on items for her. :)

"Pics?", of course.

Who will be playing with that dog?

I have a feeling that a dog is about to have a very happy home :) Happy shopping!

The HBP Post

Note this will most likely contain spoilers, so if you are among that minuscule minority of fans that haven’t finished the book, all I can say is that you have been warned…

My mom and I went to release party at our local Border’s despite my slight agoraphobia. My mom was particularly proud that I didn’t kill anyone. I wore my “Mischief Managed” Leaky shirt and was surprised to see 5 others at the store. It’s amazing how popular that site has become. Anyway we had our books and were out of the store by 12:30.

I definitely think this is my favorite book. There is so much information given. So many questions answered and so many new questions. I love the theories. I definitely think R.A.B. is Regulus Black. I believe Dumbledore was asking Snape to kill him. I believe Dumbledore is really dead, but will leave Harry something of importance in his will. I believe the Horcrux spell/potion/method is extremely complicated and cannot be done on a whim. I believe Hogwarts will not reopen in its traditional sense in Book 7, but might offer some sort of Advanced Wizard training that Harry might attend. I haven’t made my mind up about Snape though. That might take a few more rereads.

Comments:
I agree with all you said. I am hoping Dumbledore left Harry something in a will or a stash of ancient magic tricks or at least a note with directions to an alternate way into Dumbledore's office. For some reason, I think he has to get back in that office.

Almost time...

I have been trying to distract myself these past few months so as not to get myself into a hyper frenzy over the book coming out on Friday night. I must say I've done a really good job. Yes, I am excited and eager for the book, I just seem to have developed more patience.

In the mean time I read Hallowed Hunt twice and Locked Rooms once. I loved both. I know at some point I shall reread both again...but it's almost time for another book...

Leslie @ 3 comments

Comments:
Locked Rooms is sitting here by the computer, so it can be handy for rereads :) I liked it a lot too. LRK did a really good job of making post-fire San Francisco come to life didn't she?

New book coming!

I adore Locked Rooms. Definitely my favorite of the Russell books. I love the parts from Holmes' PoV!

Leslie..I am waiting for your thoughts and opinions! :)

Book Meme

Since Wolf and Laura tagged me on this I thought I'd give it a go.

1) Total number of books I've owned?

If we are counting the books I’ve inherited from my parents plus any books I’ve sold or lost over the years I’d say it’d be close to a thousand. Books I currently own has to be several hundred.

2) The last book I bought?

Hallowed Hunt by Lois McMaster Bujold. Bought yesterday.

3) The last book I read?

I’m almost finished with Hallowed Hunt, in the past few weeks I’ve reread both Curse of Chalion and Paladin of Souls. I tried reading Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Gregory McGuire but the tone or voice he used annoyed me to no end.

4) Five books that mean a lot to me:

I can easily name the book series I rabidly follow:
Harry Potter
Vorkosigan
Discworld
Mary Russell
5 God Series by LMB

As far as individual books…well I can’t pick single volumes out. I have too many books and need more shelf space before I can start any other series.

The only person I know who hasn't done this is Teri, So I'll tag her now that she's done with school.

It is shaping up to be a good year for you bookwise isn't it?? New Bujold, new King and a new Rowling--in a span of three months! :) Bring 'em on I say!

Are you goign to buy the new Laurie King next week or wait until after Harry?

It's already on order and I read the first two chapters that are available online. I can hardly wait!

I'm thinking that I am going to get the Russell and Harry on the same night. Clint is goign to beat me to the Rowling anyway. Might as well have something to read. {G}

Chapter 1

Chapter 1 of The Hallowed Hunt is up. Whoohoo!

Leslie @ 4 comments

Comments:
Did you see her comment on Dendarri re: writing the new fantasy and Vorkorsigan novels?

Yeah, I actually joined the mailing list so that I could get all the juicy tidbits first hand.

So, when is the release date and have you blocked otu the weekend to read it?? :)

It's actually being released today, but my pre-order from Amazon isn't going out until NEXT week...needless to say I've sent my mom on a quest and if she's sucessful I'll cancel the Amazon order.

Better late than never

Gazebo
Posted by Hello
Finally got the gazebo levelled a couple of weeks ago. Decided to wait until the cherry tree was in bloom before snapping a picture. Hopefully we'll be able to use it a bit before the wasps take over.

Ohhhhh....that's lovely! Spring has been beautiful this year hasnt' it?

That is really pretty!

RE: "Waiting for new Bujold...". Is something due soon?

The Hallowed Hunt comes out at the end of May. I've decided that since this summer has three eagerly awaited books I'll focus my attention on each one in turn.

It's beautiful!

I'm excited for Hallowed Hunt as well. :D

The gazebo is awesome, and lovely!

Surprise?

I am going to really try to complete some posts here. I can't tell you how many times I've started a post and for whatever reason it never gets finished...

Anyway, over the weekend where we spent a lot of time with my husband's family I was rather shocked with something my Sister-in-law was bragging about. It appears that she found it funny to convince my 14 year old neice to close her eyes for a surprise whereby she then holds up a dead mouse 1 inch from her (my neice's) nose. Now my husband and I don't find this the least bit funny. Are we weird or is my sister-in-law?

Leslie @ 3 comments

Comments:
I don't like dead mice. Live, they're rather cute when you don't have to smell them.
That is not a good prank to pull on a 14 y/o girl unless you're a 12 y/o boy.

She's the weird one. Definitely.

The SIL is weird. Absolutely.
